First Grade

This year I made the big switch of moving from a Primary SDC classroom to a general education first grade classroom. I thought it was going to be completely different but I have found it is pretty much the same. I still have to remind the students about talking, restroom breaks, what to do when someones pants are too low, what to do if they drop their pencil, and not to pick their nose.

It is 5 weeks in and there is only on difference I see. So when I am asked how things  are going in my class I say, " It is going well. I am not being yelled at, no one cussed at me, or punched me today!"

General education is going great!

Side note: There is nothing worse then when you are teaching and someone is picking their nose. There are always 4 choices as to what is going to happen when they pull their finger out...

1. They get up and get a tissue.
2. They flick it.
3. They wipe it somewhere.
4. They eat it!

For some reason I always pause for 2 seconds to see what option they are going to take ...

What will they choose will it be #1 - no never happens, #2 & 3 - it depends on their attitude that day on which they will choose (this option can be easily redirected to option 1), & #4 - just an adventurous few choose this option (Are they missing salt in their diet? Did they forget to eat breakfast?) I never know why they choose this option but usually the shock of it being chosen paralyses me and I watch in horror and disgust as it happens only to cringe when its over!

This year I have 2 that keep choosing option #4!

It is going to be a great year!
